Coyote Blog Hop and Giveaway
Hawthorne threads collection Coyote is a beautiful collection of mint greens, peach, mustard, greys floating in a background of crisp white. Printed in house, this collection of intricately sketched elements from a trip to Death Valley, combines the wild splendour of fauna and flora from the region.
I asked for prints that could be fussy cut to make a large pillow but as I started cutting into the fabric my design expanded and I ended up making a small quilt. I could have kept going but was limited by the amount of fabric I had. The setting triangles are Manchester dyed yarn in Taupe.
It was one of those quilt designs on the go. Starting with a hexagon, progressing to a octagon and finishing with a rectangle. I made use of the Jaybird rulers I had on hand to create these shapes.
Quilted in a simple design using Aurifil 2312 50wt cotton. Backed with my favourite IKEA print.
The in house prints from hawthorne threads a printed on a premium quality cotton. It sews and quilts beautifully, with a soft touch and drape. In addition to 32 prints, Hawthorne threads have printed a backing panel 56″ x 72″ to complete your quilted masterpiece.

Oh my goodness, that's a wonderful quilt and beautiful fabric. My hubby and I used to camp and explore Death Valley almost annually. Now we live in New Mexico, so don't get back there. This is giving me the bug to do so! Great quilt!

Oh — forgot to say. My favorite desert animal is a roadrunner. We have them here too!

I have never been to the desert but your wonderful quilt almost transports me there. As a child I raised cactus on the south facing windowsills here is the northeast. These prickly plants facinated, especially when they bloomed. So I would have top say cactus are my favorite desert plants. Thank you for the chance to win this facinating fabric …

I'm going to be completely unoriginal and say cactus. I kept thinking of animals and then thinking "is that a desert one?" Anyway, your quilt is gorgeous. All the makes I've seen with this fabric are loVely

I haven't been to the desert much, but roadrunners look rather interesting (and maybe a bit silly) from the photos I've seen. Also, a cactus that blooms brightly in the barren desert seems like a fascinating thing. Lovely fabrics and wonderful quilt!
Jayne
I love your pillow! The fabric is really quite beautiful! I don't really like scorpions, but I find them fascinating!
Suze
The quilt is amazing! I'd say my favorite desert plant is the cactus. Having lived with lots of foliage it was quite an adjustment when I visited my daughter who lives in the desert, When I saw that she had pebbles for a yard instead of grass, I was stunned. Now, when I visit I'm used to it and it's still foreign to me since I have one of the largest lawns in the neighborhood, It's just a difference in culture that makes life interesting.

your quilt is gorgeous. I love the design you did, working out into a rectangle. I grew up in the Mohave Dessert in CA when I was younger and I loved the cacti. There is something so majestic about them. And when the birds make their nests in them, they are just so full of life and fun. Thanks for a chance.

Great quilt – everything you decided on doing flows together to end up with a wonderful design.
Lizards are my favorite desert animal. In my yard it's fun to watch them do push ups (I guess to try and scare me off?) and we even put out more rocks in the front so they have more places to sit in the sun.
Thanks so much for the chance and for sharing your project.
Karen in Breezy Point
I would have to say roadrunner totally based on the cartoon–they seem to be very clever outsmarting that coyote!

StanleyBeagle
I can see why you'd keep going with a bigger project with those fabrics, just beautiful. I don't know much about desert animals except in cartoons with the Roadrunner and Coyote. And I once had a cactus on my window ledge. His name was Fergus.
Lacasa Cactus
I'm always amazed at quilts and yours is stunning!!! My favourite desert animal would be one from the African desert: the fennec with big ears!
Tawa
My favourite desert plant here in NZ is the red tussock. Only because it featured pretty heavily in my doctoral work. It covers the central plateau in a swathe of coppery red, and when it flowers, all the tussocks flower synchronously in tall, creamy feathery plumes. It grows in swamps and drier spots, so its a pretty amazing plant.

Just gorgeous! Love the quilt! I really like the coyote but it’s the roadrunner that I hold dear for taking me back to Albuquerque in ’74 where I went to visit my sweet older brother.

Hi Diana, Thank you. I have never seen a coyote or a roadrunner in its natural habitat but I think they would be the most fascinating animals. Jane
