Spice up your binding
There are so many great fabrics and techniques out there that can be used to make interesting bindings. I wanted to reflect the splashes of colour in my almost monochrome quilt so I cut an assortment of fabrics and made a piece of binding fabric approximately, 20″ x 42″. To decorate the fabric, I sewed straight lines in different threads of 40wt and then cut lengthways to make 2 1/2″ x 42″ binding strips.
Sew vertical lines across the width of the fabric.
Try with different thread weights and colours. 50wt, 40wt, 28wt, 12 wt. Mix it up with variegated threads.
Play with different decorative stitches.
It’s a slow process but well worth the effort to add that magic to your quilts.

What a great idea! I love my decorative stitches, but they don’t get much use. Now they will. Thanks!
