Oh Christmas Tree Pattern
Our Decembers are hot! The cicadas are singing, the scent of the eucalyptus oil fills the air and the beach beckons us. I long for a white Christmas in a log cabin with snow all around so I can take some cool photos of my Christmas quilts (and actually be cool). With the air-conditioning on, I finally finished the red striped binding on the Oh Christmas Tree so I could hang it in my sewing studio and bring on the festive cheer.
I wrote this pattern in 2015 for the Moda catalogue patterns. I feel so privileged to be a part of the Moda family, not only as a designer with Frances Newcombe but as Quiltjane of Want it Need it Quilt writing patterns. One of my favourite aspects of this job is to design fabrics and quilts. How many of us wake up every morning and say, “I love my job, what fun am I going to have today”.
I am a big fan of Moda seasonal collection, especially the fabrics of Kate Spain. The collection I used was North Woods . It reminded me of Christmas Gelato (if there was such a thing). Cool, soft, fresh colours of the season with a splash of turquoise. Yum!
The lovely Anna of @spanzy put the quilt together (while testing pattern). Quilted by me with Aurifil 2024 50wt and bound in Bonnie and Camille April Showers red and ivory fabric.
Ask your Local Quilt Shop for the pattern. If they don’t already have it, USA shops can source Oh Christmas Tree via Moda/United Notions or local shops through me in Australia.

Thank you
Tena
Just searched the Moda website you referenced and there is a Tree Skirt pattern called “O Christmas Tree” by Sweet Jane, but the picture doesn’t look at all like this. Maybe you can give a little more information to locate this item?

Hi Tena, at the end of the post I let you know where to purchase the pattern. Your shop can purchase it via Moda.

Love your quilts. Looking forward to attending the craft cottage winter school in Buderim next July and meeting you in person.

I have cut the fabric for this quilt. Should the red package fabric be 3×3? The block does not work, for me, as a 2×2. Am I missing something? Many thanks!!
