Lined Draw String Bags

Every year I go away with my school friend of 40+ years. Over the past few years I have given each one of my friends a quilt. This year I have made my travel buddies some handy drawstring bags for dirty laundry or shoe storage.

Using some of the 1/2 yard pieces in my Art Gallery Fabrics stash shrine, I created 13″ x 17″ bags using PolkaDotChair’s easy tutorial.

Instead of ribbon, I made my own ‘string’.

Cut a 1 3/4″ wide x 43″ strip of fabric (selvage to selvage). Remove Selvages.

Press edges in 1/4″ on both sides

Press lengthwise in half.

Open strip and press edges towards centre.

Fold strip in half lengthwise and press.

Stitch along both edges to secure.

The lining fabrics are just as important as the outside. If you hand stitch the inner lining to close the ‘turning gap opening’, it becomes a reversible bag.

P.S I love the boxed corners.

The bags can be made in different sizes for a colourful addition to your suitcase.

Sewn with my trusty go to colour Dove #2600 in 50wt cotton by Aurifil.
