Celebrating 50 blocks of Splendour – The Splendid Sampler™
We have reached the top of the hill. Half way there to completing 100 splendid blocks. I must confess I am a little behind on the first 50 blocks but one of the perks being a co-organiser is that I get to make blocks from the next 50 designers. So many more fabulous blocks to come. I have often commented that I wish I could sew Splendid blocks all day.
I have started my own Splendid Sampler™ page to journal the blocks as they are made in the gorgeous and very diverse French General fabrics which I have been hoarding since 2009. I love the diversity of the techniques and enjoy learning new skills as each block appears.
My favourite French General collection is Pom Pom de Paris with its pastel pink, yellow, reds and cream. If French General ever want to bring back this collection I would be one happy quilter. Hint, Hint.
Who else loves Pom Pom de Paris as much as me? One lucky Splendette will win a charm pack of Pom Pom de Paris.

This project means so much to me. It has gotten me excited about quilting again, taught me tons of new techniques I’d usually be too scared to try and allowed me to view and comment on blocks made by all the talented and creative splendid sampler participants. Thank you so much for this gift!

Beautiful fabric. I would like to win. But mostly I want to thank you and Pat Sloan and all the designers for this wonderful journey.

I love the Splendid Sampler blocks ! I love mysteries! And every Thursday and Sunday I get to open a new mystery block. I love the blocks because they challenge me to get out of my comfort zone.
I love looking at all the blocks everyone in the group is making. I love seeing and hearing from Splenderettes from all over the world.
It is an amazing group, a delightful quilt block project and I have never made blocks this small before.
Love everything about it and I am a total French General fabric addict. I seem to have found French General .. too late .. for some of the other fabrics, but I am collecting French General piece by piece where ever I can find it.
thanks for doing the Splendid Sampler Jane. It is wonderful !

Splendid is a journey for me. It’s about honing existing skills, taking on new challenges, and journeying throughout the world as I hear, see, and experience the talents and the fabrics from all of us on this journey.

The Splendid Sampler for me is a means of improving my piecing and quilting. And I have seen an improvement. Currently have about 45 blocks finished!

As a quilter I like The Splendid Sampler because of the opportunity to try new techniques. As a social butterfly I like it because I enjoy the virtual interaction with many talented quilter’s nd designers.

Don’t know where to begin but I guess should begin right from Block #1 as this is where my learning new techniques started and has continued throughout right up to the present block. I want to thank Pat and Jane and all the designers for their blocks and all the tips and techniques they have shared with us. Quilters are the best, so kind with their encouraging words and all the inspiration I have received from so many talented Splenderettes. Love this journey.

The Splendid Sampler is an opportunity to try new things. Each one is only a six inch block, so it is not a big commitment. I can make it exactly as the designer presents it, or I can do a variation. I can use the fabric I planned, or grab something from the stash. I am improving my skills and enjoying everyone’s creativity. Thank you Jane and Pat.

The Splendid Sampler has reminded me that I can do almost anything I set my mind to do-something that I was starting to doubt, before I decided to start this. Thanks so much for putting so much thought into this project, it really shows.

Jane, the Splendid Sampler is helping me with so many new techniques I would never have tried on my own. With the support of all you great people that have helped us along the way, it is a rewarding and sometimes frustrating challenge.

I love the S.S. Group, just like a year long pj party. Who knew 60 years ago I would still be partying with girl friends all hours of the day and night in pjs (lol). And by the way I have been using my French General scraps from quilts of long ago. Rj Cook

The Splendid Sampler has filled my days with fun fun and learning, during a stress filled time in my life. I appreciate very much the Splendid Sampler experience! I have paper pieced, learned different appliqué techniques, and managed 6 inch blocks. These are skills I did have before! I also love meeting different designers!

At 78, I had just recently retired when my husband was diagnosed with Renal Cancer. We had big plans for my retirement “Sewing” and “tripping” ; But between trips to the city for doctors visits – hospital visits – blood tests and Ct scans etc; the “sewing and tripping got put on hold. That is until I found The Splendid Sampler. It is just the ideal “sewing fix” for me. 6.5″ blocks – 2 a week – a lot of them are hand sewing and I can do them while sitting in doctors waiting rooms at hospital visits etc. or while I watch the footy with Graham. I so look forward to Thursday and Sunday to find the new block – I started making mine from “scraps” and the choosing of the fabrics for each block is a challenge. In hindsight I wish I had bought a range of fabrics such as The French General. But the Pom Pom de Paris charm pack will fit in with what I have done so far.
