The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt Week 47 – Petal

Welcome to week 47 of the ‘The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt’. Todays block is about Applique and Piecing. Remember, this is not a quilt-a-long. Just follow the blog every week and pick and choose which blocks you would like to make. I will be injecting some uniqueness into traditional blocks, applique, three dimensional, crazy and thread-art blocks. If you make a block please post it on the Flickr group for everyone to enjoy. Also, I have this nifty button under each post that allows you to save the post as a PDF.

Be sure to visit this week’s Guest Blogger and their wonderful block.
(N.B Due to the differences in time and date zones, the guest blogger’s block may not appear at the time of the initial posting)

This weeks guest is Debbie Grifka from Esch House Quilts. Debbie has designed a fabulous appliqué block called Pebble Path.

Petal
Petals strewn on the path of a bride will be the only soft road she will take all her life.

Materials

  • 1 x F8 of background fabric (9″ x 22″)
  • Scraps for applique
  • The Appliqué templates can be found here. Remember not to Scale or ‘Fit to Page’ when printing.

Cutting
From the background fabric cut:

  • 1 – 6 1/4″ square
  • 2 – 5″ squares. Cut once on the diagonal for each square to yield 4 triangles.

Assembly

  • Fold the 6 1/4″ square on the diagonal and finger press.
  • Prepare the appliqué pieces using your favourite technique. Fold each piece in half to find mid point and align with reference line on the 6 1/4″ square.
  • Position Piece B under Piece A.
  • Fuse and/or stitch to the background block.
  • Place Piece C on corner triangle and fuse and/or stitch to background.
  • Sew triangles to 6 1/4″ square. Press seams to one side
