The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt – Block 28 Super Nova and Aurifil Giveaway
Welcome to week 28 of the ‘The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt’. Todays block is about foundation piecing. Remember, this is not a quilt-a-long. Just follow the blog every week and pick and choose which blocks you would like to make. I will be injecting some uniqueness into traditional blocks, applique, three dimensional, crazy and thread-art blocks. If you make a block please post it on the Flickr group for everyone to enjoy. Also, I have this nifty button under each post that allows you to save the post as a PDF.

Super Nova
There is so much a person can tolerate before they explode like a super nova.
Materials
- Any scraps from the scrap bin. I pieced scraps together to make my own ‘fabric’. Sew pieces together to make blocks larger than the selected section in the foundation template. Make sure you avoid seams close to other seams or it will get bulky.
Foundation Piecing Tips
- Use a very small stitch so you can rip off the paper easily when done
- Cut your seams back to 1/4″as you go
- Press with a dry iron as you go
The foundation template can be found here Page 1 and Page 2

I hope you enjoyed todays block. Next week I will doing a scrappy log cabin variation.
The wonderful people at Aurifil have sent me some sample packs of their beautiful thread. I am sure once you try Aurifil you fill your sewing room shelves with this thread.
Anyone who has made a Desperate Housewife block (mine or guests) and posted it in the Flickr group is eligible to win one of these packs. I will be looking through the Flickr group and giving one pack away a week for the next 5 weeks.
