Colours of Manderley

The Manderley collection by Franny and Jane for Moda arrives in stores October 2016. It’s our first fabric collection with Moda as the collaborative team of Frances Newcombe and Jane Davidson.

Manderley explores the beautiful grounds of a country estate near the sea. With secret gardens and passage – ways filled with treasures, there is a trove of honeysuckle and jasmine surrounding and oriental inspired, decorative style. Journey to Manderley and into a world filled with flowers, seashells and myriad of delicate motifs rendered in fresh, vibrant colour.

In the coming weeks, I will be posting about the collection, patterns and small projects using Manderley. Today I wanted to introduce you to the different colour groups that make up our palette.

A major element of the Manderley design is focused on the sea. The cool, icy blues, mid blues and bright navy blend together to capture the essence of the ocean brimming with life and the coastal decor of the stately mansion set high on the hilltop above the crashing waves.

The greens are bright and welcoming, reminiscent of the flora of the sea melding with the beautiful gardens and grassy fields that surround Manderley.

Navy is one of my favourite neutrals. I find it complements all colours and provides a rich background for any palette. It also highlights the depth of the rich colours and intricate design elements within the prints.

Grey is another one of my go-to neutrals. It is the offspring of the mixing of white and black. Using grey with a pure colour creates a tone. Grey is quite fascinating and useful as well as being elegant and timeless. The mid-grey in Manderley works beautifully with the deep corals, pinks and pastel blue.

We added a splash of deep coral and pink to reflect the warm opulence of the decor of Manderley. Amongst the cooler seaside decor, scatterings of rich silks from the orient and lavish upholstery adorned the mansion.

These prints are our low-volume selection. Off white background sprinkled with flowers, curvy stripes, whimsical motifs and bowls and chopsticks. Tranquil in design to add a softness to the collection.
