Nested Churn Dash
Churn dash fever has hit cyberspace so in celebration of the revival of this classic block I designed the nested churn dash.
Start with a 4″x 4″ block and progress to a 24″ x 24″ finished block. The beauty of this block is that you can stop at any layer to make a 4″ x 4″, 8″ x 8″, 16″ x 16″ or 24″ x 24″ block. Make a combination of all different sizes to make a fun quilt.
I have made 9 – 24″ x 24″ blocks and will be making a simple quilt something like this using a combination of Bonnie and Camille April Showers and Happy Go Lucky by Moda.
The PDF pattern can be found here.
I would love to see all the blocks you make. Use #NestedChurnDash for all social media and share on Flickr.
This is an example of how you can mix and match the blocks. Just complete as many rows as you need to achieve a certain size – 4″, 8″, 16″ or 24″ and combine groups of blocks to make up rows.

Thank you for sharing your pattern. It really shows off the April Showers fabric. I was able to resist buying some until seeing it in your block on the Facebook group "Quilt Along with Pat Sloan"! (The Etsy shop owner was wondering how I found her shop and commented on how much April Showers she sold this weekend after having it a while. I told her about your popular posts and that I thought that could have had a lot to do with it. I've always loved the churn dash pattern and I look forward to making your version! Thanks again.

I love this Jane. It looks beautiful in the April Showers fabric, though I think it would look great in anything. It would make a great baby quilt in solids.
