The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt – Block 40 Drip

Apr 7, 2012 by quiltjane 3 Comments

Welcome to week 40 of the ‘The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt’. Todays block is about appliqué. Remember, this is not a quilt-a-long. Just follow the blog every week and pick and choose which blocks you would like to make. I will be injecting some uniqueness into traditional blocks, applique, three dimensional, crazy and thread-art blocks. If you make a block please post it on the Flickr group for everyone to enjoy. Also, I have this nifty button under each post that allows you to save the post as a PDF.

Be sure to visit this week’s Guest Blogger and their wonderful block.
This weeks guest is Charlotte Dumesney from Lawson and Lottie blog. Charolotte has designed this wonderful block – Katherine Wheel.

Drip
The bathroom tap drips in unison with the outdoor water tank and forms a beautiful symphony.
Materials
  • Stitch n Wash or Fusible Web
  • Fabric glue stick
  • 1 – Square background fabric 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
  • Scraps of fabric for water

Assembly
I have used the Stitch n Wash / Glue method. Choose your favourite Applique method.
  • Download the template from here.
  • Trace each section onto Stitch and Wash and cut out on trace line.
  • Using manufacturers instructions, press shapes onto back of fabric and cut out leaving 1/4″ seam allowance

  • Clip curves and fold over fabric on piece A and B on the outer edge only and glue down. Clip, fold back and glue on piece C.

  • Make drop using same technique and position on background square 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.

  •  Applique to background block
  • Finished, one 8″ block.
The block
Alternative design. Template found here.
I hope you enjoyed todays block. Only 10 to go.
