Bloggers Quilt Festival 2012 – Spring |
Here is my contribution – the Mega Swoon.
I recently made this quilt as part of a the swoon-a-long on Flickr hosted by Katy from Imagingermonkey blog. I did not want to make the traditional 24″ block so I created a challenge to make one 80″ mega swoon block. I selected a base fabric, a Michael Miller fabric, which I purchased on sale last year and teamed it up with as many solids from my stash. To make such a large block interesting, I made fabric from similar toned solids and used it to make the HST’s. The 20″ centre block was built around a fussy cut piece of the feature fabric. I threw in a border of bright turquoise and claret as add more character. The background was a mixture of charcoal textured solids. I backed the quilt in a red solid from Kate Spain’s Flurry collection and binded the quilt in a claret solid.
The quilting was the fun bit. I used Aurifil threads in a variety of matching and contrasting colours and custom quilted each block with geometrical designs.
As I was putting it together it reminded me of a tiled floor in some exotic hotel.
The quilt finally found its home in Sydney with my niece.
Was it easy to make? Yes!
Was it enjoyable to make? Definitely!
Would I make another one? Without hesitation!
Thank you Amy for hosting another wonderful Bloggers Quilt Festival.
