The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt – Block 35 Simple
Welcome to week 35 of the ‘The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt’. Todays block is about piecing. Remember, this is not a quilt-a-long. Just follow the blog every week and pick and choose which blocks you would like to make. I will be injecting some uniqueness into traditional blocks, applique, three dimensional, crazy and thread-art blocks. If you make a block please post it on the Flickr group for everyone to enjoy. Simple
Happiness is finding the pleasure in simple things
Cutting
From the grey solid cut:
- 2 – 3 5/8″ x 6 1/4″ rectangles and cut once on the diagonal to yield 4 triangles
- 2 – 1 1/4″ x 6 3/8″ rectangles
- 1 – 1 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ rectangle
- 2 – 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ squares
- 2 – 2″ x 2 3/4″ rectangles
- 2 – 1 1/4″ x 4 7/8″ rectangles
- 1 – 1 1/4″ x 5 5/8″ rectangle
- 1 – 1 1/4″ x 2″ rectangle
From assorted scraps cut:
- 1 – 2″ x 2″ square for centre
- 4 – 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ squares
Assembly
- Layout pieces as shown below
- Sew together to make row
- Sew rows together
- Square block to measure 6 3/8″ x 6 3/8″
- Add corner triangles

Oh this does look like fun. Thanks for the tutorial. But for my computer for some reason the pdf button didnt work.

I love this block. It seemed so understated until I saw the various layouts. I hope I have already told you how much I appreciate the layout variations. Do you use a computer program for this? If so, I would like it. I would like to see how this block looks with different colours for the square inserts. And I am sure I could find many other uses for it!
