Once upon a time a princess lived by a large lake, with grass growing all around it, acres of grass that she needed to cut with her lawn mower. Our princess hated to mow the huge lawn around the large lake, and one day n disgust she bought lots and lots of tulip bulbs and planted them around the edge of the lake. The next Spring the tulips bloomed, the grass disappeared, and the princess made a Tulip Lake quilt to celebrate!

  • Sue

First comment never wins, but here is a story for you 🙂

There once was a dog named Tulip. He was deathly afraid of the lake. Every day his people would get swallowed up in it, bob around for hours trying to escape, and eventually drag themsevles to safety. They seemed to be smiling the whole time and having fun, but he was sure it was just a farce to make him feel better as he lay in the grass anxiously hoping today would not be the day when the lake would win.

  • AlyceB

{True story…} Our wedding bouquets were pink and white tulips, and our photos were taken at the local uni. Some of the best shots were taken on the grass next to the lake!

  • Wendy

    OK, here we go:

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Tulip. She loved spring and she loved laying on her back in the long grass watching the clouds graze across the sky. She wished she could lay by the lake watching the clouds for the rest of her life. Finally, it happened. She lay still so long that she grew roots deep into the earth and became one with the plants surrounding her. And that is why Tulips come up first thing every spring: to watch the clouds in the sky. The end.

Ta-daah! Love this contest. If I win, I'd like the Tulip pack.

  • Nancy

While walking by the lake one spring day, I happened upon a large field of tulips. I thought I was dreaming since there had never been any flowers there before. I stood there on the grass by the beautiful garden and just stared. It just couldn't be.
Well, I was right, it couldn't. After closer examination, and with sun coming up and better lighting, I discovered that they were all fake. I had stumbled upon my worst nightmare. Seems that I am often surrounded by neighbors who garden with silk and they were here too!

  • Natasha

There once was a little girl named Tulip. She wanted to go outside and it was a great day to walk to the lake. While on her way, she fell in the grass and got nasty stains on her dress. Oh well, she thought. Once she reached the lake she slipped again and fell in, getting all muddy and wet in the lake.
All wet, smelly, and muddy, she walked home, got changed, and handed her clothes to her mother. Her mother yelled "Tulip, you are wet and covered in mud!" Tulip simply replied, "Am I taller?" Mother said, "Why on earth would you ask such a thing." Tulip said "Well that is what you say all the time…Tulips need three things to grow…dirt, water, and sun!"

    Sorry the story sucks 😛

  • MARIKA

This is great..I live in the country which I love…I am surrounded with green grass which I have to mow..lol. But enjoy it thoroughly. In my yard I have a pond; selfmade….that looks like a small lake..it is filled with goldfish, which attract all kinds of lovely birds….in the spring my yard is sparkling with the lovely spring tulips that I grow…

    Thank you for this opportunity

  • Cathy

I would be the 1st comment. How lucky could I be? Hopefully very lucky because I would pick the green. Congrats on 1 year and what a compliment on so many followers

  • Sarah Craig

Tulip, whose parents were obviously flower children from the 60's, floated in the Lake smoking some Grass……

Sorry – it's early and this is the best I could come up with!!!

  • sunny

Once upon a time there was a quilter who was running out of fabric. She went walking in the country, where she often found inspiration for new projects. As she walked by a beautiful lake she was drawn in by the beautiful colors of the lake, the tall green grass and the lovely tulips. An idea was forming in her mind for her next quilt design. She rushed home to draw the design, and she naturally started reading blogs at the same time. Lucky for her, Jane was having a giveaway so she made up a very goofy story to enter the drawing. She won the tulip fabric and lived happily ever after.

  • krisgray

One day while lying in the grass, looking up at the clouds, I turned my head to see an island emerge from the center of the lake. In the center of the island was a single beautiful, large red tulip.

  • Linda

Okay, you asked for it !Here is my story:

As I walked through the grass
I fell on my – behind.
I was near a large lake
    Carrying all I could take
Of the quilt I would sew –
a true work "on the go"!
So I stayed where I fell
    And enjoyed the sweet smell
Of the tulip and all that…
    Which grew where I sat!

  • Deanna

There was a quilter who was feeling very lake. Other people seemed to make such wonderful things and sometimes she even found herself acting a little grass with jealousy. Then the idea came to her: start a blog. And so she did. And it was so much fun and she met such nice people (400 of them) and made new friends who were supportive of what she did and a year later she could say that she was tickled tulip.

  • Colleen

    In quiet quiet meadow,
    grew some green green grass.
    In that green green grass,
there grew a red red tulip.
The red red tulip swayed back and forth,
as it was blown by a strong strong wind.
The strong strong wind blew so hard,
It blew the red red petals into the air.
The red red petals swirled up,
    into the cool cool air…
out over the blue blue lake.
The red red petals drifted down,
and landed in the blue blue lake.
    The red red petals floated,
    in the blue blue lake,
leaving purple purple trails in the water.
    The End
    (wouldn't that make a great pictorial quilt;O)

  • Carolyn

I love tulips. They are the color of the Blue lake and green grass. But I would like the pink fabric if I win. Congrats on your blog. I really enjoy it.

  • Mommarock

One day I went down by the LAKE and sat in the GRASS to pick a TULIP, the tulip was beautiful, but I decided the grass was my favorite.. I could just lay there and be lazy all day.. it was nice and long, and no one could find me 🙂

  • Nancy D.

I love these fabrics! Lake would be my choice. There's a lovely lady that sits at her desk at work dreaming of the day she can sit at home on the LAKE, plant beautiful TULIPs so she can see them from her sewing room window and watch a hunky guy mow the green GRASS. Until then, she will just have to commute to work and hope she's lucky enough to win!

  • Sara

We were driving through town one day and right along side the tall grass was a field of tulips that were screaming for themselves to be picked. Sooo before we headed back to the lake, we stopped to grab a bouquet of the colorful, cheerful flowers.

  • Ella

Once upon a time, there was a princess named Tulip. Now, she wasn't what you expect a princess to be. She wasn't much to look at. She wasn't even flowing and graceful. She wasn't all that ladylike. She was the kind of princess who liked to frolick and frequently came home with embarrassing grass stains on her gowns.

Her mother feared she would never marry. After a while, so did Tulip. Having heard of the stories of other princesses. She decided to go on her own quest for a princess. First she looked for a unicorn to grant her wish. No luck.
Then she looked for a magic lamp. Even though she rubbed all the lamps in the castle (imagine trying to explain that one to her mother?!). Again, no luck.
Finally, at wit's end, she went down to the lake (which was more of a pond, but they always gild the lily in a fairy tale). She spent the afternoon trying to catch a frog (to kiss of course). She was JUUUUUST reaching to grab one when it dove. WIthout thinking, so did she.
    Straight into the pond…er…lake.
She couldn't help but laugh at herself.
She decided she's rather stay single.
And that if she ever met a prince worth marrying, he'd have to love her for who she was. Tulip. No more, no less.
……now she just had to explain it all to her mother…..

A lovely old couple enjoyed their retirement years in a beautiful mountain vale. Emily dearly loved sitting in her rocker on the porch, stitching away on her quilts with the lake as a backdrop behind her work. One serene day, she exclaimed, "George! Dear! *Why* are you sitting on the grass with a tulip on your head??!" To which George replied, "Well, Dear, it was the only way I could think to get your attention since you're appliqueing tulips." Emily stitched along as she replied, "How silly! All you have to do is call my name." George just sighed, "calling didn't work any more than prancing around nude." Emily blinked as she finally noticed that other than a tulip on his head, George was sporting not one thing! Imagine that! She laughed and laughed and promised George that he'd never have to sit nude on the grass in front of the lake with a tulip on his head to get her attention. George just grinned as he thought, "Yeah, that's because the next quilt has roses. . . "

  • Melissa

The tulips were interspersed with the leriope, a striped border grass, along the side of the lake. The visual was stunning.

Thanks for offering the chance to win great fabrics:)

  • Apple Avenue Quilts

Fall's coming and I need a tulip! Not a fake one or a forced one. What ever shall I do. I searched in the grass by the lake where I saw them in the spring but they have all disappeared. I must, must, must have a tulip! I know it's spring somewhere. Maybe I can go there, but I think maybe it's too far away. I guess I'll just have to wait all through winter. Maybe it will make my tulip more special. I hope…

  • Lee Ann

Love to swim in blue Lakes
Around here, Tulips tend to be fake
    Growing Grass, must forsake

    =====

    Lakes contains blue sea bass,
    Tulips have pretty pink glass,
But, my fav is the green grass.

    =====

This effort stinks, I should delete.
But, I want a chance to compete.
Please, do forget this awful feat
    after this contest is complete.

  • Canadian Kristin

We went to see the tulips, down by the lake. Oops, we slipped in and fell on the grass and laughed and laughed and laughed!

Congratulations on One Year!!! I can't believe it's been such a short time, your blog is so very full of fun and cheer and encouragement! You have accomplished a lot in 365 days!!!

  • yorkie mom

One day a young Yorkie went for a walk down by the lake. She sniffed a tulip and was so overcome with the sweet smell of summer that she started running in circles and fell into the lake!

  • The Rogue Quilter

I trumped through the Tulips in Holland, I sailed lake Titikaka in Peru, My favorite thing is when my feet are in the grass in my own backyard. I love traveling as much as I love quilting

    What a fun giveaway,

Once upon a time in a land called Tulipville, there lived an old woman. This woman was special because she made quilts. Not just any quilts, but magic ones. It is rumored that when you slept with one of her quilts the next day you would be very very lucky.
Then one day a wicked wizard threw all her beautiful magic fabric in the lake. The old woman didn't know what to do. How would she keep making magic quilts with no magic fabric. Suddenly her fairy twitter friends appeared and took all the magic fabric out of the lake and layed it out on the grass to dry. And guess what? The fabric became magic again!

    Hope you like this, lol

By the way I added this giveaway to my blog page of giveaways. http://craizeecorner.blogspot.com/p/blog-friends-giveaways.html

There once was a man with a tulip
Who sat in the grass, drinking mint juleps.
Along came his wife, giving him strife
“Go jump in the lake!” he would say.

  • Katy Cameron

If you go down to the lake today you're sure of a big surprise,
It's lovely down in the grass today, but better go in disguise,
For every bear that ever there was, has gathered tulips there because,
Today's the day the teddy bears have they're pic-nic

  • Pam

Tulip and Lake were lying in the grass dreaming about what they would make with the Summersault FQ pack they were hoping to win from Quilt jane. Tulip wanted to make a kite, but Lake wanted to make a sailboat.

  • Leah

The rain fell lightly on the tulips planted by the lake. I laid next to them on my pink blanket with my feet hiding in the tall green grass enjoying the spring rain.

  • Lynn

One day Toonces was sniffing through the grass when she came upon a single yellow tulip. She put her nose close and took a whiff, inhaling the sweet smell along with a bumblebee which startled her and caused her to jump back and fall in the lake.

  • Jeanne

Many days ago while at my fabulous private lake house out on one of the Keys in Florida I saw an alligator chomping on something where the tulips were blooming. I couldn't see real well because of the green grass being so tall. Alas, I gathered my courage and cautiously made my way down to the tulip patch by the lake on my private island down in the Keys, to see what the alligator was chomping on. Stealthy approach was my game, not being seen was my aim, when alas, I slipped, I fell and let out a yell and the alligator bit me in the ass down at the tulip patch, in the tall green grass, by the lake on my private island down in the Keys.

  • Gale, Ky quilter

Tulip, a very happy free-spirited gal from the South who loves to quilt, walked in the grass growing by the lake where she found the perfect place for a picnic. After spreading her favorite "picnic quilt" on the ground she unpacked her basket of scrumptious picnic foods. Where was her boyfriend, Dan(de-Lion)? He should have been here before now. Looking across the lake, she spotted him crossing the lake on the bake of a beautiful swan. When they came to shore, the swan decided he wanted the wonderful smelling picnic fare and chased Tulip away! Tulip & Dan tried to scare the swan away to no avail. Finally Dan decided he was so hungry he would join swan for this wonderful feast leaving Tulip alone to fend for herself. After Dan and swan had eaten the entire meal, they got back in the lake and disappeared out of sight leaving Tulip & the quilt behind. The moral of this story? Love comes & goes but a quilt last forever.

Happy Anniversary – love your blog!

  • stephmabry

One day my boyfriend and I were walking along a path by the lake. I stopped to admire some tulips, which seemed to have been growing all on their own in a patch of grass. I picked one for myself – but it turns out my now husband had planted them, and planted an engagement ring inside the very one that I had picked! 🙂

Once upon a time, there was a very talented lady named Erin who designed an awesome line of fabrics called Summersault, which reminds her of the freedom and play of the summer vacations of her youth. She designed 3 colorways and named them Tulip, Lake and Grass. True story! 😉

  • nerospostandpatch

While lazing and dozing with the kids by the lake,
I dreamed in the grass of quilts I will make.
Quilts covered with flowers in pink, blue and green,
The coolest darn quilts you ever have seen.
    Daffodils, daisys and roses galore,
So many flowers…can I think of some more?
    Orchids, bluebells and sweet honeysuckle,
Oh Yeah and tulips too! 🙂

  • Jessica

I went to a wedding, it was down in the park on the green green grass. The bride had a stunning bouquet of tulips and roses. When the time came for the bouquet throw the girls gathered round and the count down began…3…2…1…oh no…she threw it so hard it landed in the lake!
Although this may be bad luck, this is my story and I think they should live happily ever after despite the fate of the flowers! 😉

  • Tina

    Last night I had a dream…

I was lying in the grass, at my grandmother's cottage in Houghton Lake, Michigan, dreaming as dreamers do, I can could smell the fresh water from the lake and the scent of my grandmother's beautiful tulips in her garden. When all the sudden, the tide rose ever so rapidly and moments later I was soaking wet!

Upon waking up, I found I was drenched and could not figure out why! Then, I realized I had peed myself! OMG! I ran to the bathroom to clean myself up! Nevertheless, I still had the feeling I always had as a child of my grandmother's warmth and protectiveness surrounding me even if she was giggling at me from heaven!

    (Thank you!)

  • Amorette

there was a little tulip growing in the grass. it wished that it could live in the lake instead, so it tried to get up and walk but was stuck. the tulip hoped and hoped not to be a tulip, but when it saw the lake freeze over in the winter, it was happy to be dormant in the warm ground.

  • Sew Shine

There was an ol lady from lake dulip
Who was alergic to a pretty pink tulip!
She moved away fast….to a place of all grass
So she could quilt without sneezing at last!!

  • annmarie

I walked across the cool green grass to the sparkling blue lake & picked a pink tulip along the way. (Guess I'm not funny & interesting this morning!)

    Tiptoe to the quilt shop,
At the quilt shop, that is where I'll be,
Come tiptoe through the fabrics with me.

    Tiptoe through the grass greens,
And the lake scenes, and the florals too.
Come tiptoe through the fabrics with me.

Knee deep in tulips so bright,
We'll keep the clerks up all night.

Yes, of course I really Want it!
I don't Need it, but I'll Quilt it – see?
Come tiptoe through my fabrics with me!

Once upon a time, a little girl was going to the beach with her family. They all scampered down the cabin steps and ran towards the beach. The little girl was about to join them at saw a beautiful butterfly and chased it around and around the field. She suddenly realized she was lost. She was so scared, she sat down on the grass and cried. A bright red tulip caught her eye. It was waving in the breeze. She waved back to it. It seemed to be pointing in one direction, so she looked that way, and there was her family! She ran to her family and all was well again.

Gazing into the lake, the rather crabby princess noticed her makeup artist forgot to put lipstick on her tulips. She promptly found the offending makeup artist and threw him into said lake. (You know, she was always a bit of a grass….)

Oh, how late it is! Too late at night for me to come up with coherent comments! But thanks for the chance to enter! 🙂

All the preceding stories have been so creative and fun, I'm feeling performance anxiety.

So, a small, true story: I remember a day spent with my mother. I stretched out on our lawn, a field of gentle dichondra. I read while she tended to the tulips. She staked them up, she chided the misbehaving blooms, she did it all diligently, lovingly, and without a word about her lazy, indulgent, bookish daughter who did not lift a finger to help. Instead, she asked me what I was reading, and we talked about books together.

Later on, we drove to the lake and I swam while she took her turn reading.

Decades later, I am glad to have learned from her how to hunker down and do the work that needs to be done, to keep a house and yard in order, but I am incredibly grateful to be the daughter of a reader.

Nestled in the tall, green grass at lake's edge, willowy, pale pink and sturdy pastel yellow tulips dipped and swayed in the light, cooling spring breezes.
"Ah" she said, as she dipped her hand into the water and watched as the droplets fell back into the lake. "I wonder what today will bring."
    to be continued……

Unfortunately, I am not a storyteller, but would love to enter in your giveaway. I can tell you that the tulips that I planted get eaten by the deer in my neighborhood. If only they would eat the crab grass instead, it would be so helpful. If they did, I would even consider installing a man-made lake for them to drink from. Did I get them all?

  • Sandy

Two old bikers were cruising on their Harley one beautiful, spring afternoon. The lady, who provided the fender fluff for the dude noticed a lake near the road they were on and asked the old dude if they could stop and chill for awhile. Of course he was obliged to do as the lady requested. They gathered up a blanket from the t-bag and sauntered over to the grassy area on the bank. Once the blanket was spread upon the grass, the old couple sat side-by-side admiring the first blooms of the tulips, watching the ripples in the water made by the catfish and trout that swam there. They both agreed, life is good.

Once upon a time there was a quilter that lived in Texas. Her favorite flower was red tulips. She loved them so, but never could get them to grow. Since she couldn't get the real ones to grow in her yard, she made quilts with tulips on them. She lived by a lake and would sit on the porch, look out over the lake, watch the grass grow and quilt on her tulip quilt. As she sat and quilted, it made her happy to know that even though she couldn't grow pretty tulips herself, she could have them year round in her lovely quilt. And she lived happily, quilty ever after. LOL

I'm so not a story writer, but it was a fun giveaway post! Thank you for the chance. 🙂

Once upon a time, there were three Billie Goats Gruff. They walked clickity clack clickity clack over a bridge every day. "Why are you walking across my bridge?", said the big bad troll living underneath it. The oldest Billie said, to get to the sweet green GRASS on the other side. As the Troll climbed up from under the bridge, one billie KO-ed him with his horns, then the second, and then the baby billie. With the big bad Troll gone, baby Billie said clickity-clackity-clickity-clack, "We are going to get the sweet green GRASS on the other side." The other goats sang, "We Won! We WON! the sweet green GRASS!"
    ***THE END***

  • Marcia W.

Think messed up my story as was so intent on GRASS.
Addendum: After the Billie Goats Gruff had their fill of sweet green grass, they wandered over to my flower beds near the lake. Those silly goats ate my tulips in the bed next to the lake instead of the sweet green grass. clickity-clack
    **THE END – AGAIN***

I'm not much of a story teller, but here goes nothing. There once was a ladybug who was moving out on her marigold condo. Wanting to experience some freedom, she decided to look for flower accomodations on the other side of the grassy field. Finally, after days of searching she found a short-sale on lovely tulip with a lakeside view. She knew affordable lakeside property was hard to come by, so she jumped on it and purchased her first free-standing flower home!
