Table Runner Roundup – 13 Quilted projects to spice up your table

One of the fun furnishings to make as a quilter is a table runner or topper. It’s a fashion accessory for your table that you can constantly change to suit the style of your home, holiday or special celebration. Amelia Johnson has brought 10 designers together to create a feast of 13 table runners from classic chic to fresh farmhouse.

My little project is a set of 4 hexagons that detach to make placemats. I found these cute Steampunk buttons in a shop in Berry and used Bloomsbury as the feature fabric.

Check out @sewlovetosew (Instagram) version. Maria has already made my runner and added extra hexagons to suit her long table.

Visit Martingale blog for details about the book and the read about the different places to display your table runners around the house.

I have an e-copy and one softcover publication to giveaway. Leave a comment telling me which is your favourite table in your house and why? Winners will be drawn on 23rd July 2018.

my favourite table is my hall table in my entry. has collection of photos of my 4 beautiful granddaughters and their parents

  • Laura McFall

These are all beautiful! I can’t decide between the traditional stars on the cover or the modern ‘geese in the forest’ with the gray background. I’m sure I’d make several of these for my own home and also for gifts!

My favorite table in my house is my kitchen table. It’s not old, but it’s scratched up from my cat, has white marks from hot dishes and is marked by lovely meals. It’s where my family gathers for meals for holidays as my kids are grown and no longer live with us. Soon it will be where my first grandchild will spend time with us as well…can’t wait until she’s born in August! It definitely needs a new tablerunner!

I have an oval coffee table in the living that my father=in-law made many years ago. I like the idea of displaying a lovely table runner on it so both can shine.

  • Linda Ferguson

My favorite table runner is made using small squares of fabric from the first Smithsonian reproduction collection. I even hand quilted it! Love it~! However I would sure like to make the pineapple runner.

  • Victoria Clendenon

My kitchen table is my favorite table. I get to see it all the time because it is just off from my kitchen.

  • marie Beers

Since I only have one table in my house, guess it has to be my favorite. Our kitchen table. No formal dinning room. I love the hexagons hooked together to make a runner, think my daughter would love that one. Thanks for having a chance to win.

I never thought about having a favorite table, but I certainly do! My favorite is the big round kitchen table, and I love making toppers for it. Love your design!

  • Kathleen Dalecio

I still like the dining table my husband and I picked-out together about 35 years ago. It’s not too light or too dark. It’s just the right medium wood color (kind of Goldilocks…). It is sleek & contemporary looking with a slight oriental detail on the legs. It seats 4 to 8 people and the ends are rounded making it oval.
My dining table and chairs are in what some people call a great room. No wall separates the dining from the living room area – just furniture placement. This means I can decorate my dining table for the season or an event and the ambiance carries over into the entire “public” space!

My favorite table is in our dining room area because we have a post and beam house that is very open and you can see that table from most of the downstairs as well as when you come down the stairs. It literally is in the heart of the home. It is the natural area for conversation or meals or board games! Great photos and love your pattern!

  • Heather

Lovely book. The dining table is where everything happens in our home. Family dinners, family discussions and I sew there too.

  • Vickie Bell

The dining area of the great room has a table that when expanded is square and can seat 8 people. I love when family and/or friends join us for dinner either at the holidays or just because! Love the pineapple table runner.

  • Betty Edwards

All are really wonderful but I like the unusual so the Hexagons withe Steampunk buttons gets my final vote. Just love the idea of separating the hexagons! Really neat idea!

  • Bev

My favourite table is the dining room table which at this time is being used for my sewing machine hopefully by September I can reclaim my sewing/guest room. I love the pineapple runner you have

  • Deborah Rhodes

Our dining room table, so many conversations had at this table from since my girls were little to now my grown grandchildren with our first great granddaughter.

  • Cass

Hi Jane, my dining table is my favourite table, although we most often eat in front of tv, because yes, you guessed it, the table is covered with sewing stuff. Lol. Have a great day.

  • Pam M

The table on the front verandah. The verandah gets the sunlight in winter and it is shaded in summer and it is the perfect place for a quiet mid-morning cuppa or for family lunches when everyone comes around. The verandah overlooks our garden and bird bath so there’s often entertainment on hand. Now both my husband and myself are retired, it has become the main table we use for most meals (depending on the time of year and the weather, of course) and for our daily activities. I have been thinking for quite some time that it needs a table runner. This book might just provide the incentive to Do It!

  • Tonni

It’s a very imperfect bar runner my daughter made. Her first project ever. My most cherished possession. Today, she’s an extraordinary seamstress and free motion quilter.

  • Mary Bryan

I have a very large coffee table that is my favorite table. I love to decorate it for all seasons!! So much fun!!

  • Stephanie Franco

My favorite table is my dining room table and not for why you may think. My dining room table allows me to spread my quilt out while quilting at home on my sewing machine.

  • Edna L

My favorite table is my dining room table. Great for displaying quilts, plus my husband made it. We have had many memorable dinners gathered around it.

  • Kathryn Errante

Our dining room table is my favorite. Besides our everyday dinners together, we use it all the time for other things too–crafts, baking, projects, etc. I love making table toppers and placemats, so your giveaway would be nice. Thank you.

  • linda

Actually my favorite table ion our house is our coffee table in the living room. 🙂 It is round and has both wood and tile on it. I like the textures and the colors … and I like the round.

I made a wool applique circular topper for it of my own design – it has rabbits and assorted wildflowers on it. I just wish the table were clear enough to see the rabbits more often.

    🙂 Linda

My favorite table is probably my kitchen table Although, I dearly love my grandmothers Victorian side table. . My hubby and I purchased the kitchen table around 40 years ago at an antique show. It has survived the test of time with 5 kids and 15 grandchildren. It is still in wonderful shape and will probably out last us all. I like the hexie mats and the star runner.

  • Linda Pawlak

I have two short bookcases that back up to my sewing table. They are great for supporting my fabric while sewing, but between projects I love to “decorate” the expanse of white with bright and cheerful toppers. Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Karen Seitz

My favorite table is my dining room table because for the last 2 years it has been up on risers, pushed against the wall, and used as my cutting table!

  • Brenda

Kitchen table definitely as that’s where we always gather young and old through tears and joy. Many great memories and good meals and great friends and family.

  • Sally Christiansen

My dining room table is my favorite table, just because it is old and it can be made big enough to seat 10.

  • Irene Vigil

My favorite table is our kitchen table where we always gather with family or friends to eat, of course, but also to sit and visit. It seems to be the place where everyone congregates.

  • Loris Mills

These are lovely runners. My favorite place to decorate is actually my grand piano. My favorite table is my sewing table 🙂

  • janet

My favorite table runner is just a wide strip of burlap with fringed edges. I like it because it kinda matches the sisal rug that’s under the dining room table.

  • Mary Bell

The kitchen table is my my favorite table. To me it represents family. When we greet family and friends in our home it’s around that table. It’s where we laugh and cry over life. We share meals of celebratory events.
Putting a tabletopper in the mix is an additive to those memories. The design and colors kick in helping to set an emotion. Soft colors soothe, while vibrant colors and design are ready to celebrate life. It’s why I quilt, and it’s why I love to make toppers, they are faster to make easier to quilt.
I love(!) these tabletoppers, they pop with color and design!

  • Jean Cherep

My fav are the pineapples. I live in the tropics and have three paintings of them that this would match. Pineapples are the most wonderful sign for welcome.

  • Lynda

I live in a small space. My kitchen/dining/sewing table just has to be my favorite. the leaves are built in so it makes the table heavy, a plus for 100 MPH sewing!

  • Jacqueline

    Hiya Jane!
My favorite table is my kitchen table as that is where I sew & create! I also love my lap table for sitting in front of the TV…that is where I design my blocks & quilts!
    Thanks & Quilty Huggs!

  • Cindy

My favorite table is a round side table that came from my grandma’s house. I took off the old finish and I love it.

  • Helen Bowie

    Hi,

Love them all but the one I like best is the pineapple table runner. It has been a symbol for years signifying hospitality and warmth, etc.

  • Jan

My favorite table is in our kitchen. It is small with four chairs. I love this table because this is where we eat, be thankful for our food, talk about our days, spend time as a family. This table is where my Grandson first learned to use a spoon, where the cat jumps up on while we are eating. My kitchen table is worn, drawn on with crayons , but it is where we share our love. I would not trade it for anything.

  • Edith Harries

My favourite table is my round dining table which a dear friend made of North QLD maple. I love the beautiful silky grains and the turned central piece that has 4 feet attached. I have my eye on those lovely hexagons that would suit my table perfectly. Thanks Jane xo

  • Christine Cole

Y do I g room table is my favorite place to display table runners since it is visible from almost the whole house.

  • Becky

My favorite table is a long, skinny console in my dining room, because I get to use it just for display! Lovely book and thanks for the giveaway!

  • Diana C

Love love love the pineapple runner! My favorite “table” in my home is my kitchen island where everyone gathers to keep me company while I cook.
