Social Toting with Lorena
The lovely Lorena Uriarte from Sydney, flew up to Brisbane this weekend to show our Brisbane MQG how to make the Carolyn Friedlander / Noodlehead Social Tote.
My fabric Selection |
Under the excellent tutorage of Lorena, we embarked on a 6 hour class with the aim of at least reaching the binding stage. A Face Book page was set-up with instructions for prep-work and a general forum for any queries about the construction of the tote. A kit, including interfacing and the pattern was supplied prior to the class.
The pin cushion |
By the end of the session, everyone had reached the binding stage and everyone proudly displayed their works of art.
So much diversity in fabric selection within the group.
Thank you Lorena for your time, friendship and expertise. It was one of the best classes I have attended. The social tote is not for the faint of heart but with Lorena’s clear and helpful instruction the tote came together quite easily.

Lovely post Jane, really great. I completely agree, Lorena is a wonderful teacher, and was so generous with her time and help on the FB group beforehand and during the class. It was a really fun afternoon – and lovely to sit with you and Linda. Love your Melody Miller clock pin-cushion, and your Echino tote – so bright and happy! I still need to hand-stitch my binding down … soon … Cat

It was a fantastic experience! I am so glad I was able to come and meet Lorena and the other girls too. It would have been a lot harder to sew the tote without Lorena's tutoriage 🙂

Great work and it's great to see the diversity in the results.
