The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt – Block 29 Painted Road
Welcome to week 29 of the ‘The Desperate Housewife’s Quilt’. Todays block is about scrappy log cabins. Remember, this is not a quilt-a-long. Just follow the blog every week and pick and choose which blocks you would like to make. I will be injecting some uniqueness into traditional blocks, applique, three dimensional, crazy and thread-art blocks. If you make a block please post it on the Flickr group for everyone to enjoy. Painted Road
We often follow the yellow brick road only to find that it goes on for ever and ever and ever.
Materials
- This block is a perfect way to use up scraps. So dive into the scrap bag and select your favourite fabrics.
- Cut 1 – 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ square for foundation
- Cut 1 – 2 1/4″ x 3″ rectangle for centre of block
Fabric Preparation
- Make the blocks of fabric by joining random pieces of scraps together to make lengths of 10″
- Cut up the blocks into strips ranging from 1″ – 2 1/2″
Block Assembly
- Place the 2 1/4″ x 3″ rectangle and a strip right sides together. Pin rectangle to foundation anywhere near the middle
- sew together, press open and trim excess fabric
- Keep repeating this step until foundation block is covered.
- Trim back to 8 1/2″

I love this block. I am participating in a couple of scrappy QAL's and this would be a perfect way to use my crumbs.

I love this block! A true scrap buster and to not have to do tons of piecing and to be allowed to sew so randomly- I will attempt one soon and will most likely become a WIP!!!
