112 shades of Kate – Aussie Charm Swap

The lovely and talented Melissa of MsMidge co-ordinated a fantastic Kate Spain charm swap. 56 members sent 56 each of two unique Kate spain fabric charms to Melissa who brilliantly sorted them into piles, packaged and sent out 112 unique charms from an assortment of Kate Spain fabrics from nearly every collection.
Grabbing my trusty Jaybird Rulers, I made a traditional jewel shaped flower pattern, sans ‘Y’ seams, using all 112 charms on a background of Robert Kaufman quilters linen in grey.

The flowers are made using the jewel shape of the hex n more or mini hex n more rulers.

Using the same ruler(s), equilateral triangles are cut to be sewn to each side of the jewel. This makes a 60 degree, equilateral triangle shape. 3 pieces are sewn together to make a half – hexagon shape.

The quilt is assembled in rows using the half flowers. Setting half-hexagons and half-triangles were cut to square the quilt using the hex n more and side kick ruler.

The back is from the Kate Spain Daydream collection, pieced with the remaining charms in the grey colour way. The label is made from a left over half flower.
Pieced with 50wt Aurifil cotton Grey – 2620 and quilted using Dove 2600 50wt. I am in love with Dove ! A perfect neutral thread for quilting.
Thank you so much Melissa for all your hard work and thank you Kate for being Kate and designing the most gorgeous, happy and colourful fabrics for us to create with.
